Hey there, I'm Coach Dani. And if you're feeling overwhelmed, constantly tired, or just stuck in a rut, you're in the right place. Today, I want to share a simple yet powerful tool that completely changed my perspective during a recent hike and might just help you break free from burnout, too.  Before we dive in, take a moment to breathe with me. Just one inhale in and one inhale out. Feels better already, right? That tiny pause. That's exactly what we're going to talk about today. The small moments that can shift everything. So, picture this.

It's a gorgeous spring day here in Northern Virginia and my mom and I are hiking at Sky Meadows State Park. The hills are rolling, the wild flowers are blooming, and the air has that perfect temperature that makes you feel alive. We had our path planned out and we're making good time. And suddenly, we encountered block.  And not just a roadblock of cows right there on the trail, casually grazing and completely unbothered by My first reaction, frustration. I had a plan, a pace, and a goal for this hike, and those cows were definitely not interested. Sound familiar?

When you're already stretched thin, small disruptions can feel overwhelming. But then something shifted. I paused. I took a breath. And instead of seeing obstacles, I started noticing details, the beautiful spots and patterns unique to each cow, the rhythmic swish of their tails, and the peaceful energy they brought to the moment.  That small shift in perspective transformed what could have been a stressful delay into a moment of unexpected joy and connection. This experience reminded me of something I learned from Dr. Amit Sud's work a simple practice called fond which stands for find one new detail.

Fond is a powerful mindfulness tool that encourages you to focus on one new detail in your environment, interactions, or experiences. It's about shifting your attention to something positive, unique, or meaningful that you might otherwise miss while you're running on autopilot. The science behind it is fascinating.  When you consciously seek out new details, you engage parts of your brain that foster curiosity, creativity, and a sense of calm. This practice helps break the cycle of burnout that keeps you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and disconnected. Think about it. How much of your day do you actually spend present?

Most of us rush through life on autopilot, missing the small moments that could bring us joy, perspective, and relief. If you're experiencing burnout, that feeling stuck is pretty common. You feel like you're on a loop of being overwhelmed, disconnected, unable to focus on anything, and all you see is stress.  It's like wearing blinders that only let you see line, the next problem to solve. Bond helps break that cycle by encouraging you to slow down and notice the little things you usually overlook. By shifting your focus to a new detail, you're giving your brain a chance to reset. This isn't just feel-good advice.

Research shows that practices like fond that incorporate mindfulness and gratitude can actually rewire your brain over time. They reduce stress hormones like cortisol, increase feel-good chemicals like dopamine, and strengthen neural pathways associated with resilience and emotional regulation.  The best part, besides it being free, it's not a complicated wellness routine that feels like just another item on your to-do list. Bond can be practiced anywhere, anytime, and in just a few seconds. Let me show you how simple it is to practice bond in your daily life.

During your morning routine, try savoring your coffee or tea. Notice one new detail about its aroma, the temperature, or how the mug feels in your hand. Is there a subtle flavor that you've never noticed before? How about your commute? Let's look for something you've never paid attention to. A tree starting to  an architectural detail on a building you pass every day or even a funny license plate that makes you smile. During your workday, take a 30-se secondond break to notice one new detail about your workplace or a colleagueu's communication style. Maybe it's the way someone's voice changes when they're excited about a project or how the light hits your desk at a certain time of day.

While exercising, focus on synchronizing your breath with your movements. Noticing how your body responds to different types of effort. These tiny moments of presence can become anchors throughout your day, bringing you back to the present moment when you feel yourself spiraling into stress and overwhelm.  I know what it feels like to feel stretched thin, to wake up already exhausted, to feel like you're constantly playing catchup. That's why I've made it my mission to share practical sciencebacked tools that can help busy professionals like you break free from burnout without adding more to your plate.

Let's get back to my cows. In that moment, practicing fawn transformed what could have been a frustrating delay into a moment of unexpected joy.

Instead of rushing past them, I paused and looked for one new detail to appreciate. I noticed the way they moved as a group, the contrast of their dark coats against the bright green grass, and even the funny way one cow seemed to be staring at me like I was That small shift in focus completely changed my experience.  And the beauty of it is I carry that sense of presence and appreciation with me for the rest of the day. That's the power of these micro moments of mindfulness. They don't just affect the one moment you're in. They ripple outward, influencing how you respond to stress and challenges throughout your day. Think about where you might practice bond today.

Maybe it's during your next meeting, your lunch break, or while you're making dinner. Whatever you choose, just remember you don't need to dramatically change your schedule or add another task to to-do list. You just need to pause and notice one new detail in what you're already doing. As we wrap up, I want to leave you with this thought.  Burnout doesn't usually happen in one dramatic moment. It's the result of thousands of small moments where we disconnect from ourselves and our experiences. The good news, recovery works the same way. It's built on small moments of presence, compassion, and joy that gradually shift our relationship with stress and bring us back to ourselves.

The next time that you're feeling overwhelmed or stuck in a burnout cycle, try practicing fond. Find one new detail to appreciate. It might be as simple as the color of the sky, the texture of your favorite sweater, or the sound of laughter in a busy room. These small moments of presence can be your lifeline when you feel like you're drowning in responsibilities and stress.  If you found this helpful, don't forget to visit www.getterhabits.com to sign up for my weekly newsletter. Until next time, I'm Coach Danny, reminding you that even in the midst of your busiest days, there is always time to find one new detail that brings you joy. Take care and I'll see you in the next video.
